Here is my new painting with the under-painting in progress and then finished. I think this is going to be a lovely one.
It is not unusual for me to work on several projects at a time. I like being able to move from one to another. When I feel like I need a break from concentrating on one work, I can move to the other so my time is not wasted. I have been wanting to start something new in graphite for awhile. Graphite is one of my favorite mediums to work in. the need to render the image using only values satisfies some deep part of me. I think it is the academic part that has always bee drawn to science and history. But graphite also satisfies something more primitive. It is like modeling a piece of clay into something recognizable but it is light and value being manipulated instead of earth and water. From the point in the picture above the rose still needs a few more hours of work.
Fuchsia – New Painting – In Progress
